MySpace has overtaken Yahoo inc.’s mail as the single most visited web site in the US.
Considering the fact that MySpace was virtually unknown by the mainstream Internet users two years ago and now that it rules them all, demonstrates how cut-throat the competition really is.
According to Internet traffic measurement firm Hitwise, MySpace Attracted 4.46 percent of all US Internet visits, as compared to Yahoo! Mail, the previous top dog, who was at 4.42 percent. Yahoo hit back by saying that the Yahoo network is made up of many domains and it is in- accurate to compare MySpace.com to just Yahoo- Mail which just comprises of one aspect. ‘Tis truly a Pity for Yahoo, as Hitwise does not provide figures for the number of unique visitors to a site.
To put MySpace's growth in perspective, last year this time, myspace.com represented only 1.9% of all Internet visits. Come July 8, 2006 the market share figure of myspace.com was around 4.5% of all the US Internet visits, giving it a phenomenal 132% increase in visits since the same time last year.
