Q3: Security and trust are two key values that large enterprises are looking for when it comes to storing their data on a remote server. In what way are you providing sturdy security and how are you able to get enterprises to trust you with their data lying on your servers?

A3: The issue of large enterprises storing their documents on ThinkFree is very much present. We are backing them in two ways. First of all, we are providing top level security and trying to also do some education in the matter.

Software as a Service is as secure if not in some ways more secure than what you experience inside of a Corporate Infrastructure

I had a meeting with salesforce.com and one of the points that they made during the meeting, was that software as a service is as secure if not in some ways more secure than what you experience inside of a Corporate Infrastructure.

The reason being that, maybe as much as 70% of all data theft is done inside a corporate infrastructure! So you have people who have access to the information, take information from the computers that they are using and use it somewhere else!!

Obviously, some people are not going to feel comfortable storing their information on our servers. And the way we dealt with it is that we created the ThinkFree Server Edition. So, with this version you can run the applications behind a firewall on your own servers with your own security.

We completely understand that people may have issues and in some cases, they may feel more comfortable in essence, outsourcing their security issues to us, because it is one of our core competencies. Other people may not be able to do it as well as us.

So, they may say, “here are the files, now the security is your issue”. Other people may have a lot of competency in security and want to do it themselves and we provide a way for them to do it themselves.

I think it is a good thing that ThinkFree lets the user choose how they best interact with the software whether it’s online, offline or behind their own firewall... It's something that sets them aside from the rest of the bandwagon...

Also, another interesting thing about ThinkFree, is Microsoft's interest in the application. If this company managed to garner the interest of Redmond, then it's surely bound to go where no application has gone before....

With this online web 2.0 app you can replace MS Office. Watch this screencast to see how it in action without the need to register. On myuninstalledlife.com I'm trying to uninstall everything from my desktop and replace it with web applications - and I mean EVERYTHING, I just don't want to replace the apps but also keep 100s of gigs of data online.

Govt. of India/Govt. of Jammu and Kashmir
Esteemed Sir,
With great reverence we would like to draw your kind attention towards the following facts:-
That the Govt. Of India with Department of Information Technology has launched a project in the Jammu & Kashmir state in the year 2003 and established Community Information Centers (CIC’s) all over the state in all the block headquarters with the total cost of Rs 60 crores. The main purpose of this project was E-governance, promotion and universalisation of Information Technology enabled services and skills among the rural people.
Nowadays Govt. is finalizing the proposal of E-Governance and Community Information Center’s having latest and sophisticated information and communication technology equipments can play a good role to achieve E-governance goal in Jammu & Kashmir state, If Govt. is really enthusiastic about achieving E-governance. The CICO’s who have been appointed to make Community Information Center’s functional are also highly qualified in the Information Technology field and had been appointed on merit basis by the competent authority.
But due to ill luck of today’s qualified youths the appointment is purely contractual for 5 years and there is no transparent policy from Govt. about the future of CICO’s after 5 years. Due to the compulsion of code of conduct the highly qualified youths who were at the brink of age bar had no option than to accept this job. Now we are requesting your good self to ponder provisions of this project and the formal modification may be please made with regard to the following options:

That CICO’s inculcate a new sense of job security and bright future for talented youths in the I.T. sector and other areas by providing Internet facility and other support by all possible means. This revolutionized the I.T field particularly in the rural areas and among all citizens. We are also generating smart revenue for the Information Technology Department. This is quit evident from income generated by all Community Information Center’s. The performance of all CICO’s is being acknowledged by every person and in every sector.
That all CICO’s are not only high qualified but majority of them are M.C.A’s/ M.Sc’s/ B.E’s/ M.Tech. But unfortunately these highly qualified and technically trained Youths (CICO’s) are being just paid a pea-nut amount of Rs 5500, which compels them to live miserable life in these hard times results in cooling down of this enthusiasm for the work culture. The economic status of these CICO’s are also very low as compared to the unskilled, untrained daily wager.
That as per the provision of the project the contractual period is of 5 years, which is quit a long duration as most of the CICO’s have got appointed at the age of 36 to 37+ and in case the same circular continues, the majority of CICO’s would not only have lesser time to serve in the department but also will not be able to get service benefits as well as the pensioners benefits at the time of their retirement as per the CSR rules concerned, so the scheme needs reconsideration in all respects to our delima.
That the Information Technology Department has completed its ten(10) years, but still the recruitment and service rules had not been made till date and we too are sailing in the same boat. We are requesting your kind self to direct the Department for the preparation of our service rules so that we may not suffer after five years of this CIC project. We are not opposing /forcing the Govt. but it is a request to your kind self to finalize a transparent policy for the CICO’s community.
Keeping the above facts in view we hope that we will receive a sympathetic consideration at your august hands at an early possible date. So that highly qualified and technically trained CICO’s community may not suffer any more under the mercy of your esteemed self.
