Rojo, LuLu, Simpy all of these and more are the names of these web2.0 applications.
They just make me wonder why would an application creator name the apps in such a wierd fashion, the non/availability of domain names or maybe there is as study done which says recall value with such names would be higher? Or is it that only i find them wierd?
Let's hear it from all of you.
What do you think about the application names and name the application you find wierdest of 'em all.

Gliffy.
Zakooda.
Goowy.
psfk! ! ! ! !
Names? This is an insane place! I love the inanity in the monikers. It
provides the necessary spice that keeps us interested in the whole
thing.
That said, I do believe that names like:
SyncNotes, Foldera, SocialPorn (! ) do make more sense to me. |

According to me one of the hardest problems these new age web 2.0 startups are probably facing; is choosing the right name for their application.
All the good domain names have gone long back (...around 1995?) and not bought by other
companies or individuals but by domain squatters!!
In a place where all the possible names are gone, finding a good
name now seems to be the job of the creative head.
Weird names are now cool!
I think the best name would be one which has some amount of coolness in it along with a hinter to what it does like Writely, SyncNotes and even Starterbase

Exactly!!
One of the long standing claims I've had is that these applications are named like this, because the domain that they want to be named is simply not available / unaffordable.
These days, the first thing you do before you float a venture is think up a name. This activity has become all that more important because most good (even halfway decent) domain names are gone! One has to be really creative to come up with a short name. The solution? Come up with a name that most domain squatters wouldn't touch with a 10 foot long pole! Most of these names are non-enqlish words (most squatters rely on mass booking dictionary names, etc.) - there've been known cases of entrepreneurs booking domain names first and then coming up with a web 2.0 application which suits the name much, much, later.
