How do we rate?

If you ever wondered how we rate and evaluate products/software listed on our site, you’ve come to the right place.

We rate our software based on the following four attributes.

Usability:
How easy or difficult is the software to use. Are the software controls usable? Does the software keep one guessing as to what the controls do or provide enough indications to help the user?

Usability includes features as we believe features are pointless if they aren’t Usable! Therefore essential questions need to be answered as to how many features does the software sport? Are these features relevant to its core purpose? How does it lend to help the user perform its task better?

Functionality:
Does it really serve its claimed purpose well? Does it accomplish its tasks thoroughly and well?

Functionality is closely linked with stability and therefore while evaluating functionality we also consider this as a factor. So essentially how well does the software run? Does it hog a lot of system resources while performing its tasks? Does it crash or hang while performing functions.

Presentation:
The look and feel of the application and how well is it presented. Is the software visually appealing apart from being functional? Do specific animations and colors help a user to identify what’s going on the screen?

Value for Time/Money:
Does the application deserve the amount of effort and time invested by the user into it?

Also we need to consider the fact that these applications are ever evolving and therefore never perfect. But this shouldn’t stop the user from knowing whether the developers have planned for a bright future for their application and therefore extend the capability over a period of time.

What do the stars mean?

Generally we rate on a scale of one through five, with one being the worst and five the best.

1: Bad:
Don’t even think about it. The product isn’t worth your time!

2: Average:
This program has major flaws, though it is not completely without merit, use only if you have to. It will attract the enthusiasts for the sake of the concept. We won’t recommend it unless it is the only one of its kind.

3: Good:
This is a good solid program. Its strengths exceed its weaknesses but yet has some flaws/bugs. The product does have flaws but you can live with it. e.g. The product would occasionally crash!

4: Great:
The product is great and we would definitely recommend it. The product doesn’t have flaws but could do with some more improvement of important features.

5: Killer App:
Its God-like…need we say more.
